SHAYNE MORROW CAPTURES 2011 FALL TRI-STATE OPEN TITLE

The 2011 Fall Tri-State Open Nine-Ball Tournament turned out to be the best event yet hosted by Gold Crown. The 64 player event was by far the toughest field seen to date at the quarterly event. Shayne Morrow plowed through the ranks undefeated winning 7 straight matches. His matches included wins over Tulio Antonelli (7-3), Kenny Greer (7-5), Shane Winters (7-3), Nick Brucato (7-2), Butch Weimer (7-5), Dave Grau (7-6), and in the finals defeated Tim Beba (7-3). Shayne played near perfect in the finals. While breaking the balls 5 times, he managed to run 4 racks. Evidence of Shayne Morrow’s excellent play was his best Break Count Average for the tournament of 4.1.

On another note, the tournament utilized a modified double-elimination format developed by Paul Schofield. The format lopped off 30% of the time that is usually needed to run a true double elimination tournament. In previous events, the action started at 1:00 in the afternoon and wound down around 5:30 in the morning. This event was completed by 1:00, reducing tournament time by 4 1/2 hours.
